Not sure you know what you write, "cost accounting" is the generic term to describe a book that is based on production, not the type of expenditure. Under U.S. GAAP (and almost all government-imposed accounting) system system cost bases are grouped on the activity (employment costs, financing costs, production costs, depreciation, advertising, …). This is not very useful for management purposes. At least, management must know which are indirect and What are the direct costs. If you have multiple products, it is useful to know the cost of each product (ie how high the price should be making a profit). The big problem with the accounting costs are indirect costs. indirect costs must be allocated to each product sold.
